SAMPLE QUESTION

A mucosal biopsy contains an intact epithelial sheet above a basement membrane and vascular connective tissue. Oxygenated blood reaches the connective tissue, but experimental compression increases the distance between its capillaries and the epithelial sheet. The lumen does not supply oxygen in this experiment. Epithelial oxygen delivery falls despite unchanged oxygen content in the incoming blood.
